Earlier this spring, my roommate and close friend Mai faced an unimaginable loss: the sudden and tragic passing of her father to suicide while we were away at the OVC basketball tournament. At just 20 years old, Mai is now navigating life without one of her biggest supporters. Her father’s passing has left her family not only heartbroken but also facing unexpected financial strain.
Mai is a proud member of the Doan Dynasty family and the Morehead State cheer team, where she’s competed on mat each season. She is a dedicated student-athlete, maintaining a GPA above 3.5 while balancing school, training, performing community service, and team commitments. Her work ethic, warmth, and resilience inspire everyone around her.
Now, Mai needs support more than ever. With the challenges her family is facing, continuing her college education and athletic career has become uncertain. We’re hoping to raise funds to help cover tuition, living expenses, and other essential costs so she can stay at Morehead and keep pursuing her goals.
As we recognize Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month this June, Mai and her family hope that sharing her story will also help raise awareness and compassion for those quietly facing mental health struggles.
If you’re able to give—whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply words of encouragement—you’ll be helping Mai carry on with the future she’s fought so hard for.
Thank you for standing with Mai.
