Support Maico's Legal Battle and Family Needs
On Tuesday, May 27th my Husband, Maico, was detained by ICE. We are raising money to pay for his legal fees, possible bail payments, and for living expenses for myself and our 2 month old babygirl.
Maico was on his way to work and our roommate and his coworker Karina, a US citizen, were pulled over by an unmarked car. Immediately after being pulled over three more cars surrounded the vehicle. Four or five men wearing face coverings with no agency identification other than a single "Police" patch surrounded the car. They took away Karina's car keys, saying that they would put them on top of the car. They came to the window and said they were doing a "drug sting operation" and that they were working with the springfield police. They said that they need Maico to get out of the car so that they could talk to him.
When Maico did not exit the car on his own they pulled him out of the car and placed him in handcuffs without explaining what was happening. When Karina asked why he was in handcuffs they said because he is illegal, nothing to do with the supposed drug operation. She asked them if she could get out of the car so that she could explain to Maico what was happening and they told her that they had Spanish speakers.
The unidentified men asked if he had an ID, then had Karina look for his passport and ID in his backpack before he was in handcuffs. Shortly after he was put in a different unmarked vehicle. Karina asked where they were taking him and they told her they couldn't say. They told Karina that he could make his phone call in an hour and then they left.
Maico and I have a 2 month old babygirl and I cannot currently work due to her being so little. Maico's income is the primary income for our family. We have already found a lawyer to help Maico get out of detention, we will also need money for food, diapers, gas, and rent, for the duration of his detention.
Thank you so much to those of you who are helping people in these horrific situations, please share this GoFundMe with your networks as much as you can!
