In memory of our beautiful mom and grandma, Mai Lor Thao.
Mai unexpectedly passed away on Saturday morning January 18, 2025 after fighting with multiple illnesses. Mai was a selfless, kindhearted and hardworking woman. She was born in 1964 in Xiengkhouang province in Laos and later fled the Vietnam War bombings to Ban Vinai refugee camp, where she lived for a time before immigrating to Oshkosh, WI in 1984 with her then small family.
As a first-generation immigrant, she knew little-to-no English and worked tirelessly in manufacturing jobs to provide for her family of 10 after her first husband passed away. Despite these challenges, she managed to put her family first and would work 10 hour shifts during the night, sleep for 2 to 3 hours, and still get her kids ready for school in the mornings. Even though Mai had no formal schooling herself, she understood the importance of education and instilled these values in her children, many of whom graduated college. Mai was a proud and loving (grand)mother, recognizing and celebrating even the smallest achievements. She will be sincerely missed and fondly remembered.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; her children Nhia, Youa, Usaef, Linda, Gina, Shoua, Yongcha, Loriya, Nancy, and Tommy; and her grandchildren Zoe, Kimsamxu, Moonci, Rin, Sophia, and Clementine.
Your support during this difficult time means the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for any contributions to commemorate her life and give her the final send-off according to the Hmong traditions that Mai held dearly.
