Support Maguire Through Brain Surgeries

Donation protected
At 18 years old my brother Maguire was diagnosed with a seizure disorder: epilepsy. He now needs multiple brain surgeries.

Over the past 5 years, Maguire has had multiple hospital stays. Despite the fact that Maguire is on multiple anti-seizure medications, he continues to have abnormal activity in his brain. For Maguire, the abnormal brain activity and seizures are causing irreversible brain damage.

Due to where the seizures occur in his brain, Maguire has long term memory loss amongst other deficits. Over the years, Maguire’s seizures have had a significant impact on his life. This includes his ability to drive, work, attend school, and his social life.

This August, Maguire will be admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital neuro ICU for several weeks to have multiple surgeries. The first surgical procedure is called SEEG. This involves the surgeons inserting multiple probes through his skull and into his brain, which will be in place for up to 3 weeks. The probes will help pinpoint the exact location of where the seizures occur in his brain. During the second procedure, the goal is for the surgeons to then perform a craniotomy and remove that portion of Maguire’s brain. These surgeries will prevent further damage to his brain, by eliminating or significantly reducing the seizure activity.

Maguire will be unable to work during his hospitalization and following recovery. Donations will help with paying for the hotels and gas for visitation and medical bills. This is an uncomfortable ask from our family, but we are looking for some help during this very stressful and scary time. Your donations will allow us to support Maguire through this journey and help get him back on track to continue his career as an Ed Tech and back to school to finish his degree in elementary education. We appreciate everyone’s love and support.

Thank you!
