Maggie was living her dream on July 27, 2026, as a content creator and bench staff member for JHX Hoops, the Kansas alumni team competing in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). She was surrounded by the game she loves and the people who have become like family. That night, Maggie and her 8-year-old daughter, Taya, who had the incredible opportunity to serve as one of the team's ball kids, celebrated a thrilling victory together. Their joy was palpable as they hugged, high-fived, and shared an unforgettable moment with the players and staff.
Tragically, the celebration turned into a nightmare when an opposing team member forcefully shoved one of Maggie's teammates into her. The teammate's head struck Maggie's face with tremendous force, knocking her to the floor. Maggie was rushed to emergency care, where doctors diagnosed her with multiple fractures to her nose, a fractured and severely deviated septum, and significant facial trauma that will likely require reconstructive surgery. Instead of preparing her classroom for the new school year as a dedicated high school teacher and single mother, Maggie is now facing weeks of recovery and an uncertain road ahead.
Between emergency care, surgery potential, follow-up appointments, medications, travel for treatment, lost wages, and other unexpected costs, the financial burden is overwhelming. Any support for Maggie during this difficult time would mean so much to her, Taya, and their family. Thank you for considering a donation to help Maggie recover and return to what she loves.
