Hello Family and Friends,

I’m writing to tell you that God's been doing great things here at Great Lakes Christian College.

I am no longer a commuter RA this year but through the connections I made last year I am able to still be involved in the community. Whether that is helping at sports events, having conversations with classmates, or participating in our after school events. God has been working through me by building connections with other students and he has shown me the wonderful work that I can accomplish here at Great Lakes. He has also helped me to create long lasting relationships with those around me. I have been given the wonderful opportunity to serve as a short-term missionary to the Hawaiian people in Waimea, Kauai.

I understand putting the words missionary and Kauai in the same sentence may sound like an oxymoron to some, and from the advertisements and presumptions most have about Hawaii, I don’t blame you. So, let me take a moment to share some of the things we will be doing. Our work in Waimea will be diverse in both how we serve and what we experience. Some of our services and interactions will include working in taro fields with local Hawaiians, repairing/painting and cleaning the local education center, interacting with Hawaiian children daily after school, serving the local YWAM directors as we stay at their house throughout the week and serving at the middle and high school Bible club within the public school. Not only will this be a great way to serve and share the love of Christ, but I am continually reminded by our leaders that this will be a cultural experience that will impact me and how I view my place in this world and ministry the rest of my life.

Here's the bottom line. We all have to raise money to make this happen. The cost is $1,200, and it must be totally raised by November 27th. This money covers food, housing, transportation, and supplies for the work. None of this money is spent on sightseeing or souvenirs ....ONLY ministry. I've enclosed some more information about the trip and I'd like for you to prayerfully consider how you can help. Then do whatever God asks of you. This is a no pressure deal. I have faith that God will provide the funds for me to lead this trip and I hope you’ll be a part of His provision.
