This GoFundMe is for a dear friend and her daughter, who are struggling. Maggie Elvey has advocated for Crime Victims' Rights for 20 years. Maggie has given so much to others, but now she needs help.
Maggie and her daughter, Leslie, have been through a lot over the last few years. Now, they are struggling and are losing their housing. The apartment complex where they live is evicting them. Leslie has been very sick; she has fallen, causing memory issues; she has recently been hospitalized several times and is going to dialysis three days a week. Also, Leslie just got out of a nursing hospital. Due to her health issues, Leslie lost her job and is living with Maggie. On top of everything else, they had a large car repair bill that had to be paid for Leslie to have transportation. Maggie doesn’t know where to turn and is beside herself as to what to do. With Leslie no longer receiving a salary, Maggie’s Social Security cannot cover all their expenses. Being able to buy enough food has been a challenge. Maggie never thought at 82 that she would be dealing with all this.
Maggie and Leslie moved to Hemet, CA, about two years ago. In the process, Maggie hurt her back and now has trouble getting around.
Maggie’s husband was murdered during a robbery of his gun store. Maggie spent years testifying at parole board hearings to keep the responsible parties behind bars. Sadly, she lost that fight. The two individuals have been released and are now on the streets. She often wonders if she will ever see the $250,000 the young juveniles who murdered her husband, Ross, were ordered to pay her at the end of the trial for Ross’s medical expenses. She has not seen any of that money. Between losing her husband, her daughter’s medical problems, and her injured back, she can’t make ends meet.
She even sold her home to a company that bought the house and didn’t give her what it was probably worth. Unfortunately, being in her situation, some will take advantage.
Maggie is embarrassed to ask for help but desperately needs and deserves any help you can offer.
