This fundraiser is organized by Juliana Schwartz and Yungsuhn Park, Wonderland parents who want to support 9-year-old Maeve through a critical health challenge.
Maeve is fighting to recover from a severe neurological disorder that began with antibiotic-resistant pneumonia last fall.
What started as a week-long hospitalization has evolved into a challenging journey that has temporarily taken away Maeve's ability to read, attend school, and enjoy many of the activities that light up their world.
Maeve's condition disrupts how their brain processes and sends signals to their body. On good days, they struggle with visual impairment and dizziness. On the hardest days, they endure uncontrollable tremors, struggle to walk unassisted, and have non-epileptic seizures.
As a result, Maeve has had to take a medical leave of absence from school, which has been incredibly isolating for them.
There Is Hope—but It Takes a Village
With the right combination of therapies—including neuro-physical therapy, visual therapy, occupational therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy—Maeve has a strong chance of recovery. Research shows that with consistent treatment and support, between 63% and 95% of children with this condition can regain their health over a period of six months to one year. But the road to healing is long, and the financial burden is overwhelming.
Maeve's parents, Paul and Dana, are freelance professionals who have had to drastically reduce their work hours to care for Maeve, coordinate medical treatments, and navigate the complexities of insurance. While their flexible schedules allow them to be there for Maeve, they don't have access to benefits like paid leave or employer-provided healthcare. Many of the specialized therapies Maeve needs aren't covered by insurance, creating a mounting financial burden.
How You Can Help
We are hoping to raise $35,000 to help cover:
• Specialized therapies and treatments
• Medical expenses and treatments not covered by insurance
• Essential support for Maeve's family during this difficult time
Every Dollar Makes a Difference
Whether you know Maeve from the Wonderland or Koreatown communities or as part of our extended family and friend circle, you know how bright their kind heart, bright spirit, and resilience shine. Right now, they need their village more than ever.
Your contribution—big or small—helps bring Maeve closer to healing, friendships, learning, and the joy-filled childhood they (and all kids) deserve.
Please donate and share Maeve's story with anyone who might be able to help. Thank you for your kindness and support!
