My name is Maesynne Lamey and I have 4 beautiful children: Gabriella, Izabella, Daesyn, and Maesyn. In June, I was Mercy flighted to Seattle, Washington when I was 32 weeks pregnant because I went into preterm labor. The University of Washington was able to stop my labor until 39 weeks, and then I gave birth to Maesyn here in Seattle. We were told Maesyn had Aortic Valve Stenosis and would need intervention within the first week of his life. When he was born, they said he was looking far better than the scans they had received prenatally, so they opted to do an Aortic Balloon Valvuloplasty catheter procedure at 3 days old. We were then told we would be back in Montana within 5-6 weeks.
After that news, I decided within a week to send my 3 older children (Gabriella, Izabella, and Daesyn) back to Montana with a friend so they could get ready to start kindergarten and go back to a semi-normal schedule. This way, it wouldn’t be as hard to transition after Maesyn and I returned home. The day my kids were traveling back to Great Falls, MT, Maesyn started struggling to come off the ventilator. We still had hope that we would be able to return home within a couple of weeks because we thought maybe he needed a little more time. But that was definitely not the case. Maesyn started getting much, much sicker and needed more and more support. After MANY tests, his care team informed me that plans had changed and that Maesyn has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome Variant and right ventricular failure with severe Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation. This was making Maesyn struggle to breathe on his own due to improper blood flow to different parts of his heart, lungs, and body. So, his team decided he was too sick to go on bypass and instead performed a high-risk combo catheter/surgical procedure called the Hybrid Procedure, which involved placing a stent in the PDA and 2 bands in the Pulmonary Artery to better control blood flow to the lungs and body. Maesyn was just over 2 weeks old when he got that surgery. The hope was that by controlling his blood flow, it would take some stress off his right ventricle so his tricuspid valve would leak less. The actual Hybrid procedure was a success, but he was still struggling to come off the ventilator, which they found was due to his tricuspid valve continuing to be severe.
During this time, my friend met me in Spokane, which is about halfway, and I picked my 3 kids up and brought them back to Seattle to start school because at this point, we didn’t know how much longer Maesyn was going to be in Seattle. I felt this was the best choice for myself and all of my children, to be with their mommy and little brother! A few short weeks later, Maesyn’s care team decided Maesyn wasn’t giving them much of a choice but to try and repair his tricuspid valve. At 7 weeks old, Maesyn endured his 3rd heart procedure, and his surgeon was able to repair his valve from 60-70% regurgitation to about 20-30%, which is significantly better! He was making HUGE positive progress towards extubation and was doing wonderful until 10/15/25 when he sort of told his team to STOP, and they thought maybe he needed more time. Thankfully, more time wasn’t exactly the case, and yesterday they found an infection in his intubation tube and fluid in his right lung! So, we started him on antibiotics, gave him a little more breathing support so he could rest more, and that seems to be helping quite a bit! His care team and I are still very cautiously optimistic that by the mid to the end of next week, we can work on trying to take him off the ventilator! But we still have no idea how much longer we are going to be down here. If everything continues going in a positive uphill direction, they expect at least another 4-6 months, which has been devastating news to digest as mine and my children’s whole lives were in Montana! We love it there!
I have been trying really hard not to make a GoFundMe as we were so hopeful we would be home sooner rather than later, and I could resume working, but now I still have some bills I need to pay and am struggling financially to do that as I haven’t been able to work since the end of June when I was emergently flown here.
This money will go to helping me and my children relieve some of the financial stress that comes with this heartbreaking situation. It will help me and my kids be able to stay in Seattle with Maesyn while he continues to receive treatment, any medication needs he may have that insurance doesn’t cover, getting my children to and from school, the hospital where Maesyn has been since birth, and any necessities the kids may need while being here. Any support is greatly appreciated, and thank you for following our story! Maesyn and our little family are going to get through this!
