Support Maegan Solis’ Road to Recovery

On Thanksgiving 2024, what should have been a time of family and happiness quickly turned into a nightmare. While my sister, Maegan, and her cousins were crossing the street back to our parents' home, she was struck by a speeding vehicle in a residential area and sustained severe injuries as a result. Thankfully, our family was quick to act, but until she regained consciousness, we thought we lost her.

To date, she has undergone 3 surgeries, and even when she is finally discharged, she will need to be transferred to a rehab facility to ensure the best possible recovery. She suffered from fractures to her clavicle, pelvis, two vertebrae, and two cracked ribs; her right tibia and fibula were also shattered, requiring a metal rod to be inserted through her knee, and a fracture to her right elbow accompanied with nerve damage that could cause her to permanently lose sensation and movement in her right pinky and ring finger. She has also received countless skin grafts all over her body due to severe road rash. Thankfully, with the advances in medicine, she has been able to stand and take a few steps, and she is handling her recovery like an absolute warrior.

That my sister is still with us is nothing short of a miracle, but the lasting physical and emotional damage she has suffered as a result is just beginning. The emotional damage that my parents are also suffering has been equally devastating to witness, but I know that we are stronger when we stick together as a family, and my family has faith that God will get us through this.

Unfortunately, this is a situation that none of us could have foreseen. The financial implications of the incoming medical bills for her hospital stay, multiple surgeries, and an undetermined amount of time in rehab have brought a level of stress to my parents that they should not be worrying about as my sister recovers.
