My name is Madison Esposito, I am 24 years old. When I was 18 years old and a freshman at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, I suffered a severe concussion. Since that concussion occurred in September of 2018, I have had a headache every single day, with varying degrees of severity.
After almost 6 years of having no answers, 30+ medications, three months of physical therapy, two rounds of occipital nerve blocks, two rounds of Botox, countless scans and blood work, my team of doctors finally had an answer.
In October 2023, my pain management doctor officially diagnosed my chronic pain as Occipital Neuralgia, triggered by my concussion back in 2018. As a result of the severity of my concussion, my occipital nerves were damaged and are inflamed which is causing me near constant pain.
Since then, I have been referred for Occipital Nerve Decompression surgery, a surgery that has an 80+% success rate and could potentially alleviate my pain entirely.
Although this procedure has a very high success rate, the medical insurance industry continues to view the procedure as experimental and therefore will not cover the expenses of the surgery.
This procedure would completely alter the course of my life, while greatly improving my quality of life.
Any donation at all helps! Thank you so much in advance for all your support!
