Madison was recently diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and will be undergoing surgery at the beginning of June. As a collegiate athlete for cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track, this diagnosis has changed her life dramatically. She will not be able to run for at least three months while her heart tissue heals, and only after that will doctors evaluate if her heart can tolerate running and high intensity workouts again. During this time, Madison will be on restrictions, missing work, and making multiple trips (a 10-hour round trip) from her school in the Upper Peninsula to her home in Chelsea for medical appointments and follow-up care.
Madison is one of the most caring and thoughtful people I know. She is currently pursuing her degree in nursing at Lake Superior State University. She graduated from Chelsea High School two years ago, and during high school, she worked at the Chelsea Retirement Center for over two years before moving on to Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. Her first real job was at Chelsea Culver’s! Madison has always balanced a full-time student schedule, working almost full-time, and being a college athlete. Even with such a busy schedule, she found time to volunteer, run for fundraisers, and help in the community.
The funds raised will help cover missed work, medical bills, travel expenses for the many trips between school and home, and help purchase a more reliable vehicle since her truck recently stopped running and needs a new motor. If you are able to help us support Madison and show her how much she is truly loved and how much she means to so many people, we would be so grateful. Madison continues to help others and never expects anything in return. If you are not able to help, please share the fundraiser and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
