On Friday, September 26, 2025, our beloved daughter, sister, auntie, and friend, Madge Calamity Duus, was on her way to work at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, when her life changed in an instant. Madge was struck by a speeding vehicle in a near fatal accident and has suffered devastating injuries. She is currently in critical care and as a family we are all praying for her recovery.
Madge is of Navajo and Danish ancestries—her Navajo clan is Todachii’nii, and her Danish family hails from Denmark. She carries forward both her cultural legacies with grace and dedication, weaving them together in her life’s work. Her journey at IAIA began in 2013 as a student, and in 2019 she began serving as a therapist, supporting Native communities with compassion, wisdom, and heart.
Madge is a loving, caring, and deeply generous spirit who has given so much to others. Through her work and presence, she has touched the lives of countless individuals—students, colleagues, friends, and community members. Now, she faces a long and difficult road to recovery, requiring extensive medical care, neurological treatments, surgeries, and ongoing rehabilitation.
As a part-time employee, Madge will not receive financial support from her workplace, leaving her without income during this critical time. This fundraiser is to help cover her mounting medical bills, rehabilitation, and essential living costs so that she can focus fully on healing.
Madge has always stood for her people, her family, and her community. Now, we humbly ask for your help to stand with her. Any donation—big or small—will make a meaningful difference in her journey back to health and stability.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your love, prayers, and support.
All funds raised will go directly toward Madge’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, and in support of her primary caregivers: D, her loving partner and her mother, Gloria A. Begay. All funds will be mindfully managed by her next of kin, Gloria A. Begay.
