My mother, Madeline Leon, is 90 years old and works as a DoorDasher to help make ends meet. Doordashing at 90 years old! It’s hard for a 70 year old! Her knees are bothering her with all of the walking and stairs she has to climb. She is the sweetest lady and will go out of her way to help when needed. Never asking for anything in return. Despite her age, she enjoys being out in the community, meeting new people, and staying active. Everyone who meets her loves her. My mom worked two jobs when we were little. She hired a lady to take care of us. She worked so hard as a single mom. Mom had to pay the mortgage aside from the everyday bills. But every weekend she made sure we all went out to dinner. Her children mean the world to her. Social Security ($800) is not enough to cover her living expenses for the house with the prices of everything now.

Prices are so out of control for food, gas and taxes and regular bills. With gas prices rising, it has become even more challenging for her to continue working and pay her bills. Every trip she makes to deliver food costs more, and it’s getting harder for her to keep up with the expenses. Everyday she puts gas in the car to Dash. But not everyday does she get orders. My mother sits in her car for hours just to get orders. She is determined to stay independent and active, but the financial stress is taking a toll on her.
