Hello my name is Madelena Phan and I am the writer, director, and cinematographer for this film called “The Missing Piece”. This will be my first official debut in submitting into film festivals and would love to see how people respond to the message of this film. Me and a few indie filmmakers are working ambitiously to create this film and can’t wait to see it on the big screen.

Why should you watch this film?

I grew up with rom-coms at my fingertips, and I particularly believe this gave me high expectations for love and what it’s supposed to look like. The more I grew up with a generation full of nonstop talking stages, casual dating, hookup culture, and people choosing to stay in unhealthy relationships and broken homes. I started to wonder will this vicious cycle ever end?

In the end, I realized, we needed a cure for this broken system. Hurt people HURT people. How can you expect a broken person to fix another broken person? You can’t! This film dives into a deeper meaning about love, and not just about your feelings. There’s a reason why you love others, but that’s because of who first chose to love you.

The audience I’m trying to reach:

The audience I’m trying to reach is not just those who have a Christian faith. But the bigger audience, who are far from religious or not wanting to have to do anything relating to Jesus. I grew up viewing faith as something shoved down my throat, but I didn’t understand what it meant to have a relationship with Jesus.

So for those who may disagree or may never heard of the story about biblical love, I encourage you to pay close attention to the message of this film and have it as food for thought. How can we choose to love someone who’s incomplete?

Where is this project heading?

Because of your support and dedication to helping me make this film come to life, a big portion of the money will go towards feeding the crew, buying props and wardrobe for set, and ultimately allowing me to submit my film into the film festival circuit.

Speaking of which, I am planning to submit this to both local Atlanta & national film festivals but also faith-based festivals in the hope of creating a new media presence for the Christian community.

With this film, I hope to promote not just what may seem like the religion of Christianity. But in reality, what people can’t seem to cure is their longing to be loved by someone. This script hits home to how I grew up with a religious background but not a relationship with God myself. I hope this film gives you a new perspective or a topic to explore with those around you.
