MaddyChristine was recently diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, -- cancer that started in the bile ducts connecting to the liver. She has tumors in her liver and lungs. and the disease is advanced. On 11/18, she began 3 months of weekly and bi-weekly chemotherapy and immunotherapy with the intention of improving her quality of life by reducing pain and making her more comfortable.

The journey has been challenging. She is learning a lot about pain and pain management.

Maddy is Dutch, which means she’s straightforward, direct, and never one to shy away from hard conversations. She’s approaching this moment with that same honesty and emotional strength -- while her body is tired, weak and in pain.

This diagnosis comes after what has already been a very difficult year. In September, Tim’s sister Joy passed away. Tim and Maddy cared for her deeply, putting their own plans and needs aside to take her to emergency rooms and medical appointments.

Now, as they face Maddy’s own health crisis, they need our support. Maddy’s health insurance carries an $18,000 annual deductible. She will quickly reach that this year.

Every summer, she leads spiritual pilgrimages on the Camino in Spain. She helps others find God though walking, where she feels most at home. Tim runs Amoveo Group , a non-profit development organization which mobilizes resources to fund and develop solutions for international communities.At home in Media, Pennsylvania, their front yard has become a neighborhood gathering place where dogs, kids, and friends naturally gather. It’s a reflection of who they are: warm, generous, and big-hearted.
