Many of you know our soul sister, Maddi.
Since giving birth to her daughter, Zoe, over three years ago, Maddi has been facing a relentless series of severe, chronic health issues—triggered by her last pregnancy and compounded by a preexisting autoimmune condition. What should have been a time of healing and adjustment turned into years of navigating debilitating symptoms, attempting to access a failing healthcare system, all while caring for her children.
Maddi is a single mom of three, doing everything she can to hold her family together under impossible circumstances.
Accessing care through Medi-Cal has been an ongoing barrier rather than a support. I’ve sat on calls and sent emails alongside her—hours spent navigating a system where one dropped referral can stall everything, approvals expire, and the process resets again and again. The energy it takes to fight for basic care is enormous, especially for someone already living with chronic illness. Attempts to find additional support through organizations and providers have largely led to long waitlists, no responses, or unavailable resources.
Now, Maddi is facing eviction.
Even though Maddi has always paid her rent in full and has never exceeded the 30-day deadline, there have been times she’s been a few weeks late while managing ongoing health and financial challenges. Her landlords are now pursuing eviction based on this pattern, placing her housing in immediate jeopardy. She is doing everything she can to work, but her income is not sufficient or sustainable given her condition, and she is at a breaking point.
We are raising funds to help Maddi:
* Pay down credit card debt accumulated during periods of job loss and medical hardship
* Secure safe, more affordable housing for her and her children
* Access necessary medical and mental health care that is not dependent on Medi-Cal delays.
This is a critical moment. Without support, the ripple effects on Maddi and her children will be significant.
If you’re able to contribute—any amount—it would mean more than words can express. And if you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this with your community would make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for showing up for Maddi and her children during a time when they need it most.
Sincerely,
Alley Hart and Lauren Eisenmann
