Hi! My name is Courtney, and I’m writing on behalf of my big sister, Lauren. Lauren has been a phenomenal nurse for 9 years. Her and her fiancé, Matt, have been together for 13 years and are amazing parents to their 2 children. She’s been the best big sister to me and our little brother.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, our family received news we wouldn’t think in a million years we’d ever hear. Their daughter, Madelyn, was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at just 3 years old. She’ll initially be at John’s Hopkins for around 30 days to receive immediate treatment, but will require 2.5 years of treatment total. Our hearts are beyond broken for our sweet girl.
Lauren and Matt will both need to stop working for the month Maddie is at John’s Hopkins, to be with her and still care for their 6 year old, Maverick. Unfortunately, Lauren doesn’t qualify for FMLA as she’s only a part-time NICU nurse. John’s Hopkins doesn’t accept her health insurance, but this is the BEST hospital to treat Maddie.
If anyone is able to donate to help cover upcoming medical expenses, gas, food, or anything else that comes up, we would be so incredibly grateful.
