Support Macy’s Fight for Answers and Healing

On April 20th, Macy was diagnosed with strep throat. Just days later, everything changed. By Monday, she began experiencing sudden twitching. At first, doctors believed it to be rheumatic fever and discharged her from the hospital.

But Macy’s condition didn’t improve—it worsened.

Over the past five days, her symptoms have escalated significantly. The twitching has become more severe, and her personality and mood have changed in ways that are heartbreaking for her family to witness. As her parents say, it’s like she’s not herself.

Macy has now been back in the hospital with no clear answers and no end in sight.

Dan and Shaina believe Macy may be suffering from PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections), a condition that can occur after strep infections and cause sudden neurological and behavioral changes in children. Unfortunately, the current hospital is unwilling to diagnose or treat this condition and is discussing discharge without a plan forward.

Because of this, Dan and Shaina are considering transferring Macy to another facility that can properly evaluate and treat her—but this comes with significant, unexpected financial burdens.

Right now, their focus is where it should be: on Macy.

Both Dan and Shaina need to be by their daughter’s side during this incredibly difficult time. That means time away from work, mounting medical bills, and the ongoing responsibility of caring for their other children, Bel and Poppy.

Dan and Shaina are deeply valued members of our community. Dan has spent countless hours coaching our girls in softball, and Shaina is always there, giving her time to support the school and those around her.
