My name is Fred Leach and I am reaching out with a heavy heart to share the challenges my family is facing.
In April of 2025, my son, Mackie, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In that moment, my life felt like the Hindenburg, engulfed in flames. As I prayed and offered uncertain reassurances, a name came to mind: Shackleton. Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who led his stranded crew of 27 men to survival against impossible odds after their ship, the Endurance, sank in Antarctica in 1914. After 20 months on the ice, every single man was rescued. Like them, we’re facing a seemingly endless storm, but we are determined to endure.
At the same time as Mackie is battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, my wife Jennifer has been battling Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease that has left her unable to care for herself and has led to her needing care in a nursing home. Mackie, a 16-year-old who is interested in Paleontology and Meteorology and who possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of football, is improving, but the costs of treatment are staggering. Jennifer, whose smile and outgoing personality has endeared her to many staff members, deserves comfort and dignity in her care, but those expenses have added to our burden.
We are humbly asking for your help to ease the financial burden so we can focus on what matters most – supporting Mackie’s fight against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and ensuring Jennifer is cared for with love and respect.
Your donations will go directly to:
• Mackie’s chemotherapy and medical expenses
• Jennifer’s nursing home care
• Essential daily needs to keep our family afloat
No amount is too small, and if you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing our story to reach others who might help. Your prayers, kind words, and support mean the world to us as we navigate this challenging chapter. Like Shackleton’s crew, we’re holding fast to hope, and with your help, we can reach safer shores.
With Gratitude,
Fred Leach
