Our son and brother, Mackenzie, was 32 years old when we suddenly lost him on June 17, 2025. It is a pain no family should have to endure. Handsome, smart, funny, loving and caring with his whole life ahead of him. But he could not break away from the grip of alcoholism. Mackenzie's Fund is my way of honoring my son and giving another young adult a chance at sobriety, by providing some financial assistance toward the cost of recovery treatment when they could otherwise not afford it. I am partnering with Tree House Recovery Center, a national substance abuse rehabilitation program, to identify clients in need. If this fund can save one person's life, and their family the heartbreak of losing their child, then I have paid it forward for Mackenzie.
A dear friend who found his grace to recovery wrote this poem of hope and faith.
Meditation by Morning Coffee
Open your eyes.
Be excited about today.
Feel it,
Smell it,
Touch it,
Taste it.
It's one more day God has given you to sing,
Shout,
Cry,
Laugh,
And get dirty.
To screw up,
To be terrific,
To ask for help,
And to be helpful.
To pray,
To be the answer to someone's prayer,
To love and be loved.
