On November 5th, 2025, our beautiful best friend, Mackenzie Scully, was hit by a truck while being a passenger in her friend’s car. Due to severe head trauma, she is now in critical condition, suffering from traumatic brain injuries.
Being from a small town, usually when you meet people at a young age, you’re kind of stuck with them forever. Some people might say that’s a bad thing. In my case, it’s the thing I am most grateful for, because if there’s anyone I would want to be stuck with, it’s Kenzie. If you have the privilege of knowing Mackenzie, you know just how special of a person she is: an amazing athlete, a beloved sister and daughter, a committed friend, and the funniest person you will ever meet. No matter the occasion, Mackenzie could brighten any room just by saying her jokes, and the whole room would erupt with laughter. Not being able to experience that these past two and a half weeks has been terrible.
The Scully Family were long term Elwood residents, as Jaime and Mackenzie’s sister Casey were both JGHS graduates. They love and appreciate the community so much. Mackenzie especially was a proud Elwood knight until 9th grade, when they moved out of state for family reasons. Still to this day, she calls Elwood her home.
Although something even more terrible is that this tragedy has been a nightmare for her loved ones—especially her wonderful parents, Jaime and Ian. No parent should ever have to go through the pain that they have to endure right now.
This fundraiser is to help Mackenzie’s family during this long and uncertain time — to ease some of the burdens so that all their energy can go toward supporting her recovery. Whether it’s medical expenses, time missed from work, or the countless unexpected costs that come with a tragedy like this, we want to make sure they have one less thing to worry about. Mackenzie is the strongest person we know, and we all have so much confidence that she will make it through this, but her recovery process will be long and difficult. Which is why during this time, we ask for your prayers and your support so that we can laugh again soon with our beautiful friend.
