My name is Tiffany Lewis, and I am the half-sister of Angela Vargas-Crawford. On Sunday, we lost Angie suddenly and without warning. Although I only met Angie ten years ago, she showed me immediately what having the best sister could feel like. She made me feel included from day one. Macie’s story is a big part of Angie’s story.

Macie was born very prematurely and spent nearly the first year of her life in the NICU at the University of Iowa while Angie and Mitch lived at the Ronald McDonald House. During that time, they formed lifelong friendships and found a community that supported them through the hardest days. From the moment Macie was conceived, Angie and Mitch reshaped their entire lives around giving her the care, stability, and love she needed. Because of their dedication, Macie has grown up surrounded by people across the Midwest who adore her and cheer her on.

With everything Macie has already overcome in her young life, she now faces the heartbreaking challenge of growing up without her mother.
