Support Maci Kate's Life-Changing Surgery
Donation protected
Maci Kate was diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy due to a birth injury when she was born. She was born 10 weeks early with a grade IV and grade I brain bleed. This led to a diagnosis of periventricular leukomalacia “PVL”. Maci’s legs are unable to straighten out fully and she also has to walk on her tiptoes majority of the time. She is able to get around currently via a walker or wheelchair. Since she was born, she has had therapy multiple times a week and several minor Botox procedures with casting to try and help straighten her legs and control the spasticity of them. Recently, she saw Dr. Stevenson, located in Cincinnati at the Children’s Hospital. He recommended a procedure called a selective dorsal rhizotomy. The procedure involves identifying the small nerve roots coming into the spinal cord from the leg muscles and severing/cutting the nerves that lead to the spasticity. Dr. Stevenson said this procedure has a high chance of letting Maci Kate walk on her own and be independent like a typical child her age. She would have to spend at least 3-4 weeks in Cincinnati after her procedure. The first week she will be in the Children’s Hospital recovering. The following 2-3 weeks she will have to attend outpatient physical therapy 3-4 times a week. As you know, the cost of the surgery, therapy, medical expenses, and typical travel expenses can add up. We have created comfort color T-shirts to help support Maci Kate and her journey to walking. The money we raise will go directly towards her surgery and Cincinnati expenses. We would love and appreciate your support! God Bless You.
