Maceo, a 5 year-old off-track Thoroughbred (racehorse), came to me roughly a year ago. After an injury during training, he was sent to rest and recover. Maceo was then retired from racing prior to his career even beginning. In his rest, this is where we crossed paths.
Through many months of rehabilitation, Maceo has learned to trust humans once again and gained much confidence through play and natural exploration. Maceo is a loving and curious horse who loves being a part of a community, but does not want to be ridden.
I have spoken with Thoroughbred experts and vets around the country regarding Maceo's resistance to riding and trait behaviors. Consensus agrees that Maceo's previous training injury has probably affected him more than we know and attributes greatly to his refusal to be ridden.
After long and careful consideration, I have made the choice that our goals as horse and human do not align. Out of integrity and respect, Maceo will be rehomed to Humanity for Horses in Northern California where he can have sanctuary. I believe it is in his best interest to live freely as a horse- he deserves nothing short of his freedom.
I am grateful for this opportunity for Maceo to turn a new chapter in his life. However, it is with humility that I request your help for his transportation to his new home. Whatever donation you can provide is greatly appreciated and cherished more than you know.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Wish Maceo the best of luck on his journey!
Much love,
Jane
