Mabel Rose was born and passed as a fighter. She was born, to our surprise with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome and a Congenital diapragmatic hernia. Our daughter underwent her first major operation at 13 days old, at Nicklaus children’s Miami where we emergently transferred from Palms West hospital. After they repaired her hernia we transferred to UF Health Shands, specifically for the brilliant Doctor Bleiweis. Him and his team put her on a Berlin heart and listed her for heart transplant on February 18th. For 168 beautiful days, we were able to see our daughter not just live- but thrive. We truly made her hospital room home, and she arguably was and always will be the favorite of many. She was so incredibly special, and so so sassy. In our waiting for a heart, she learned to eat, sit up by herself, babble and snuggle. She had two little teeth sprouting from her bottom gums. Her little gummy smile was starting to have tiny sharp teeth. Needless to say, if love alone could heal her- she would have been born perfectly healthy. But we know now she has a peace we could never give her. On August 5th, her grandma Booty’s birthday, our phone rang with the news in another families greatest heartbreak, they chose a selfless and immeasurable gift. The gift of a chance to live. And that heart, from her hero donor fought with her until the very end. About a day after undergoing heart transplant, and being in the OR for 12 hours, the following day she was rushed into surgery again a leak was inside her heart and from the stress of transplantation it worsened. She was rushed for an emergency Atrial septostomy where she was resuscitated for 20 mins in surgery until being placed on ECMO. After five days of being on the life support the doctors felt she was ready to come off and did a trial. She did not do well, so our surgeon decided to try and fix the leak. Another open heart surgery, we & our friends, family and strangers nationwide prayed. And she came off ECMO, no repair necessary. We rejoiced, until lesions appeared on her skin. A fungus that was taking over, and she fought it so hard. Until the morning of September 1st, when we took our daughter to the helipad on top of the hospital. Above our home, filled with the people who had loved and held our girl and fought alongside her. On that rooftop we played music and held her as the sun and breeze greeted us warmly. It was there she went home to Jesus, and is in eternal peace. We feel her everywhere, in everything. And we will dedicate the rest of our lives to living for her. The most whimsical, sassy, intelligent and beautiful babygirl. Forever 8.5 months old. To know her was to love her, and to anyone who followed her story, our story- loved her too. We are asking if any are able to donate towards her funeral expenses, and as well to our family in this time of moving our lives again & this time we are putting together the pieces not only broken but truly shattered. We want to honor her in every way, climbing mountains, riding horses, loving loudly, and doing everything with a healthy dose of attitude and side eyes.
