Support Lys’ fight against incurable stage 4 stomach cancer.

Meet my wife Alyssa Burks. If you don’t know Lys and her story, the short version is that after 2 years of going to doctors and advocating for herself that she was not okay, she was diagnosed with stage 4 poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with signet ring cell that has metastasized to the peritoneum and ovaries. In simple terms, she has stage 4 stomach cancer. This particular cancer she has is aggressive and can only be cured by removing the entire stomach. Lys was not able to get her stomach removed before her cancer spread.

Lys at this time has undergone 18 chemo treatments (9 rounds systemic chemo treatments, 6 rounds of intraperitoneal chemo, 3 rounds of second line chemo).

-4 laparoscopic procedures

-4 endoscopies

-2 liver biopsies

-1 major surgery to remove entire stomach, ovaries and fallopian tubes, and a small part of the esophagus. (January 2024)

-countless blood tests and scans.

Since July of 2024, Lys began dropping weight again, experiencing extreme fatigue and then began throwing up every time after she ate in October 2024. She went to the doctors multiple times to advocate for herself and they were not listening. They finally did an esophagram (Barium Swallow Test) which showed that literally almost nothing was making it to her intestines. They then deemed that an “emergency” and have admitted her to the ER. We are now in the hospital and will be at least for a week they’re saying. Our Christmas will be spent in the hospital.

We have started this GoFundMe to assist with medical bills and help bring joy to Alyssa as we try to create the best memories with whatever time we have left.
