Hi everyone, and thank you for taking a moment to read about Emely's dog, Lyra Boots.
A few weeks ago, Lyra suddenly began squinting and showing signs of pain, to the point that Emely had to rush her to the emergency vet. Over the next several days, Lyra needed multiple urgent late-night visits as the vet team struggled to bring down the pressure building inside her eyes. Though they were able to stabilize her temporarily, the pressure spiked again overnight, sending them back for another emergency visit.
Lyra was diagnosed with primary glaucoma and incipient cataracts in both eyes. Despite aggressive treatment, the pressure in one eye became uncontrollable, leaving surgery as the only option. To save Lyra from excruciating pain and permanent damage, the vet team had to remove her eye through an emergency procedure.
The total cost of Lyra’s emergency care came to $5,500, forcing Emely to drain her savings and take out emergency loans to cover the bills. While the vets were able to save Lyra’s remaining eye for now, they’ve warned that the second eye will likely need to be removed in the future due to the progression of her condition.
This GoFundMe is to help Emely pay off the overwhelming costs of this unexpected crisis. Emely has done everything possible to give Lyra a happy, pain-free life, and any support—no matter how small—will make a meaningful difference as she works to recover from the financial strain of this emergency.
If you’re able to donate or share Lyra’s story, it would mean the world to them both. Thank you for helping give Lyra the comfort, care, and love she deserves. ❤
