Support Lynn Whitaker's Recovery Following Devastating Crash

Hi friends, family and All,

My name is Shay Whitaker, and I am writing this for my mother, Lynn Whitaker, who survived a life-threatening car crash in early August following two significant floods in the area.

She was driving on a treacherous dirt and gravel back road when the road gave way beneath her car, pulling her down a 50 ft. muddy ravine, landing in a river bed. She hit the windshield and began bleeding profusely from her head. She laid on the horn, hoping someone would hear her way down in the river bed, which was not visible from the road. She was trapped in the car as her right leg was broken. She was rescued by 12-15 Fire, Rescue, and EMS, who were amazed that she survived. They walked her upstream on a stretcher to get her out of there.

They transported her to UVM Medical Center, where she was in ICU for the first 5 days being treated for the most life threating injuries; 15 broken bones, blood clots in her lungs, a severe head laceration, and underwent surgery for her broken femur where they placed a 12" rod.

Once she was stable, she was transferred to another floor at UVM where they continued to care and monitored her now for the minor broken bones; her broken left wrist, right clavicle, and 12 ribs for the next month.

My mom left UVM with a medical transport to a rehabilitation near me where, with daily physical therapy and occupational therapy, my mom learned to walk again! My mom spent over a month at the rehab learning some basic daily living skills to be able to return home with outside care.

I am writing this to ask for help for my mother, who lives alone in a rural area of Vermont as it hasn't been the smoothest transition home as we all planned for! We are facing challenges of getting home care which my mother desperately needs!!!

We are looking to raise $9,800. The money raised is for a home health aide to help her in her home, a reliable older car to get her to medical appointments, shopping for food, medical bills not covered by insurance, and any other bills we hadn't planned for.
