Lyla, my companion and family of 13 years, recently had a very bad seizure. We were fortunate to have a good friend willing to take us to the emergency vet, and get her the help she needed, but she hasn't been the same since. She's seeing a regular vet soon to try to figure out what's happening with her. If you've had to take your pet to an emergency vet before, you know they aren't cheap.
I've never been in a stable financial situation. I work full time, but I struggle with mental health issues--some diagnosed, and some my therapist and I are fighting a broken system to get diagnosed and medicated--that have been getting worse lately. Between time lost to this and the days following Lyla's attack when she was not stable and could not be left alone, I'm facing a suspension at my job. I live alone; rent, utilities, and living expenses fall solely on my shoulders. I was only able to cover the emergency vet bill because of a good friend who helped me out. I'm only not in the negatives now because of the kindness of friends. But the expenses keep piling up, Lyla is probably going to need a lot of tests to figure out how to proceed from here, and will most likely need medication for the rest of her life. I have no fallback if I can't pay my rent. I've been picking up extra hours to try to make up for time lost, but a suspension throws a huge wrench in that.
I have no family nearby. My family IS Lyla. I talked myself out of starting a gofundme when I first considered it, but it seems like my only option now. Anything you can give is incredibly appreciated by both myself and Lyla. Please share if you can.
