Our Provo Fire family is heartbroken to lose Captain Spencer Long, his wife Katrina Long, and their three sons Reid Vernon, Thayne Long and Gage Long due to a devastating flash flood Thursday evening. In an instant, their daughter Lydia lost the people she loved most and is now facing an unimaginable future without them.
My husband began working with Spencer at Provo Fire 12 years ago, and through that friendship, Katrina and I became close friends. Over the years, our families shared laughter, trips, milestones, and countless memories. Spencer and Katrina were loving, devoted parents whose greatest joy was their family. They touched the lives of so many with their kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
Today, we have the opportunity to honor them by surrounding Lydia with the same love and support they so freely gave to others.
As Lydia begins the long journey of grieving and rebuilding her life, she is also facing many unexpected financial burdens. Donations from this fundraiser will go directly to Lydia to help provide for immediate needs, including funeral and memorial expenses, housing, counseling, daily living costs, education, and other expenses that arise as she navigates this unimaginable loss.
No amount of money can take away Lydia’s pain or replace the family she has lost. But together, we can help ease some of the burdens she now carries and remind her that she is not alone. Every donation, no matter the amount, is a meaningful expression of love and support.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Lydia in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for standing with Lydia and helping her find hope and strength in the midst of profound loss.
