Late Summer 2025 update:

Dear friends,

Things have taken an unexpected turn since this campaign began. Shortly before her planned knee surgery, Lu Ying was diagnosed with a tumor in the right side of her brain & was hospitalized immediately due to the urgency of the situation. We are lucky they caught it when they did. It was also determined she has breast cancer.

We thank you all for the incredible love and support given to Lu Ying. Please keep it coming as she journeys through this difficult time.

Thank you all for your patience as it's been a while since we've provided an update here. Understandably, Lu Ying needed time to process the information internally before she felt comfortable sharing it with others. Fears about asking for help, or sharing medical information that felt personal caused her to begin to spiral emotionally. Over time with help & therapy, the fears began to dispel and Lu Ying now feels strong enough to be vulnerable with all of you, her community.

She is now dealing with everything that comes along with that: juggling doctor’s appointments, medication schedules and treatment plans, educating herself on treatment options, symptoms, and available resources, and taking care of herself physically and mentally. It’s a LOT.

She is used to her independence so accepting help is an adjustment. We want to make her feel less overwhelmed so here are a few areas we can show her we get it.

The knee surgery will have to wait as she takes on this new battle.

Kindly resist the urge to overwhelm her with well wishes, and remember that she is still the bad ass Lu Ying that we all know and love.

She will be extending her medical leave from work at Massive, Pony and Flammable Sundays at Chop Suey for the rest of this year. Choosing to focus her energy in projects with Shameless and Pride Asia as her treatment and recovery allows.

Help Luying (DJ Moist Towellette) Get Back on Her Feet!

For well over 20 years, Luying (also known as DJ Moist Towellette) has been a cornerstone of our local underground music scene. As a dedicated member of the Shameless crew and long time friend of the Chaos BurningMan crew, she has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that every event at venues like Rebar, Kremwerk, Pony, and Massive Club sounded great! Whether it’s a live act, DJ set, or comedy routine, Luying’s expertise in sound tech and production has made countless events successful.

Luying is not just a hardworking professional; she is a champion for the marginalized, always working with grace, dignity, and love. Her contributions to our community are immeasurable, and now she needs our help.

Luying has been forced to take a break from her work due to severe knee issues. She is planning to undergo crucial knee surgery, which will require an extended recovery period, leaving her unable to work for even longer. As a community, we are coming together to support her during this challenging time.
