Lush has become my home away from home. As a close friend of two of the owners and getting to know the third, this establishment means so much to me as do the owners. I’ve witnessed the progress of the bar, from getting ready for their reopening in 2021, through their first Pride Season, hosting national pageants, and everything in between. The owners genuinely want to make a positive difference in the community, and I feel so fortunate to call all three of them my friends. In addition to them, Lush has one of the best staffs in town, always ensuring that everyone who walks through the door is kind and has a good time.
We all know the Twin Cities bars and restaurants were already in tight financial positions. Now, a recent large financial loss just weeks before Pride month has made things even harder for Lush. This setback doesn’t just hurt the business—it affects the employees and the entire community that relies on this space for connection and celebration.
The money raised will help Lush continue business as usual, remain a strong advocate for the queer arts community, and ensure their staff can keep the hours they depend on. Upon completion of the fundraiser I will be cutting a check directly to Lush for the full amount of the funds collected. Lush has informed me the funds will help cover the unexpected cost of the deductible and any additional will go to needed upgraded security to prevent something like this from happening again. If you’ve ever had a positive drag experience in the Show lounge, played bingo, enjoyed a spectacular happy hour, or been part of a group that Lush has welcomed, I encourage you to give back. Your support will help ensure these experiences can continue for everyone.
