UPDATE:
I am very sorry to say that I said goodbye to Lune this past Sunday, 12/15. We could not save her. Her kidneys suddenly failed, despite all our hard-won progress and how much she fought to survive. She was anemic, cold, dehydrated, and had a slow pulse. IV fluids would put her in worse heart failure, and there was no guarantee that fluids would even help her kidneys recover. I did not want her to suffer. I elected to humanely euthanize. The pain feels insurmountable, yet I certainly felt - and still feel - surrounded by love. I don't think I will make it through this tragedy without that love. I am eternally grateful for everyone's donations and support.
If this is the first time you've come to my fundraiser, the start of the story is below this update, and updates I shared along the way are below that. It was a traumatic two weeks for the both of us.
I am amazed at the response this gofundme has already received, and I unfortunately still need help to pay off all the treatment we gave her. If you can spare any money or share our story, I would greatly appreciate it.
Our pets are our best friends and our family. Please hug yours extra tightly for Lune and me. She's up there somewhere now - I can feel her in the moon. I hope she's happy and healthy, destroying as many toys and eating as much stolen food as she wants.
Take care, and thank you.
Best,
Erin

Hi, my name is Erin, and I'm asking for your help to pay for my cat Lune's treatment. She was admitted to the ER today when my roommate found her lethargic, vomiting, and not eating. It was found that she ingested a large amount of my vitamin D3 supplements and has cholecalciferol (vitamin D) poisoning. I'm currently out of state and am very, very lucky that someone was present to care for her.
Cholecalciferol poisoning is very dangerous because it dramatically increases calcium levels and can damage kidneys, leading to renal disease or death. Her blood pressure was low when she came in, and it was still low the last time I talked to the doctor a few hours ago. Her calcium levels were so high upon initial testing that they weren't even registering. She will be hospitalized for 3-5 days while the veterinary team administers fluids, monitors her blood work, urine levels, and overall health. If she pulls through, we'll probably be looking at months of frequent vet visits for continued monitoring.
The amount I've listed now is the high end of the estimate I received from BluePearl. It may rise depending on how she does and subsequent vet visits. I'm currently living paycheck-to-paycheck and receiving financial assistance from my family just to cover my own bills. I've been applying and interviewing for better paying jobs, but nothing has come along yet.
I adopted Lune in 2017 after my own trip to the ER. She has absolutely saved my life over and over. She's super chatty, full of personality, and helps me keep smiling through my own hardships. Keeping her alive and healthy helps the both of us - though of course, her life is much more important!
I apologize if this post sounds stilted or the wording is off. It's been a frenzied day trying to stay on top of things and go through hoops with CareCredit to get that secured for an initial payment. I'm extremely worried and terrified of losing her.
I appreciate anything you could donate toward the cost for her care, and I'm thankful that you've come to this page and read our story. I'll update as I learn more.
Take care, and thank you again!
Erin
Update 12/14:
The amazing treatment team saved Lune's life after over a week's stay. She developed congestive heart failure and permanent kidney damage , though the cause is still unknown, and she'll be on two medications for the rest of her life.
The second stay and echocardiogram added to my bill considerably, which you can see reflected in the new goal of $14,000. This added a significant amount to my already considerable mountain of debt. I do not regret it at all, and I'm already so blessed to have received as much support as I have. If you can donate again in the future, and continue to share, I would greatly appreciate it.
