We are excited to share that Luna will soon begin her first intensive therapy program, lasting three weeks and focusing on feeding, physical, and occupational therapy. This program will be held at NAPA in Los Angeles, where they specialize in Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI), a highly specialized and intensive approach that employs unique equipment and suits. Unfortunately, the costs are beyond our budget, and we are seeking your support to help make her attendance possible. Any contributions would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your generosity.
Luna was born at 33 weeks due to a placenta abruption, which resulted in a loss of oxygen. I underwent an emergency cesarean section, and Luna was born with blood in her lungs and anemia. We both almost lost our lives due to this. The situation was overwhelming, and it was a traumatic experience for us, as Luna spent over a month in the NICU. We were informed before leaving the hospital that she was at risk for cerebral palsy. We promptly sought early intervention and began working with specialists at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
The initial months were challenging as we focused on helping Luna eat, gain weight, and manage tummy time. We observed developmental delays, which were expected due to her premature birth. Luna began experiencing twitching, placing her at high risk for seizures, and we were advised to seek emergency care if the episodes intensified. Eventually, the twitching became more pronounced, prompting a hospital visit. An MRI at eight months revealed that she had Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), a brain injury caused by reduced oxygen at birth, which also led to a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, affecting her movement and balance.
Our journey has been long, and Luna has demonstrated remarkable bravery and strength. While we have faced numerous challenges, we are hopeful that the upcoming intensive therapy will foster her progress. I have been a dedicated advocate for her throughout this process, and we appreciate any positivity and support during this time. Thank you.
Here are some pics of our special girl, she’s always one happy camper! (:
