I am writing this on behalf of a close friend from Alma College who is in dire need of help. Many of you know Rick Dominguez, who now goes by the chosen name Luna and prefers she/her pronouns.
Luna is suffering from a chronic and debilitating illness, which has left her bedridden. She is unable to engage in most activities without risk of hurting herself. She badly needs emergency funds to pay for rehabilitation specialized in Long COVID, in-home nursing care, and a motorized wheelchair that will help her take care of herself. These resources will make it much easier and safer for her to pursue her long-term goals of finding productive treatment and improving her health.
Luna has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS. This illness severely impacts her daily functioning, making it difficult or sometimes even impossible for her to brush her teeth, eat food, or maintain her personal hygiene. Her condition also limits her speech and even her ability to type. Her health has recently worsened dramatically and rapidly due to inadequate support; while her family has stepped in to help, they are unable to continue providing the 24/7 support she needs. She has reached out to many doctors, but has had limited success finding people who understand her condition well enough to help her.
Luna is still working very hard to find professionals who can give her the support she needs, but it's a slow and difficult process. In the long term, she needs and is pursuing professional care in a dedicated facility, and medical attention from doctors who understand CFS. Right now, you can help by donating to her fundraiser. It will be a difficult financial goal to reach, and anything you can spare would be welcome.
