Our Jake is in need of help. I adopted Jake from the Newington Humane Society in June of 2018. He was one of many kittens there that day, but the only one that came in without brothers or sisters and was all alone in his crate, unlike the rest of the kittens who had siblings in the same crate.
Jake was found in a dumpster in the pouring rain one night when he was only a few weeks old and brought to the Humane Society.
Jake rescued us just as much as we rescued him. For Luke and me, he was and is everything we needed. Luke and Jake became instant best friends. He is such a playful, kind, and snuggly cat who has brought so much joy, laughter, and comfort every day since he came home. We find it hysterical that he understands his name is Jake but believes his tail is named Frank. If you ask him, "Where's Frank?", he always wags his tail. When he wants attention, he will sit next to you and meow, then gently tap you with his paw to let you know he wants to sit on your lap or be pet.
Unfortunately, Jake was diagnosed with a heart condition which has been well controlled for the past 6 years, but we are now at the point where he needs further medical treatment, which is very costly. Pet insurance is not an option since this is a pre-existing condition.
I have to say that it does feel quite uncomfortable to publicly ask for help, but I'd never forgive myself if I didn't. Jake is still very happy and playful when he's feeling well. He's Luke's whole world and consistent comforting friend, as well as mine and now Doug's too.
We would appreciate any help for Jake.
