Help 15-Year-Old Luke Fight Dense Deposit Disease (DDD)

A Small-Town Teen Facing a Rare and Serious Kidney Disease

Hi, my name is Christian Springer, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my 15-year-old cousin, Luke, from Bennington, Idaho. Luke is an incredible young man with a kind heart and a positive attitude. He loves playing the guitar, spending time outdoors, and has a passion for golf.

A Tough Diagnosis

December was a difficult month for Luke. He started feeling sick and spent weeks going in and out of doctor’s appointments, trying to figure out what was wrong. Tests revealed high levels of blood and protein in his urine, which raised serious concerns.

In February, Luke and his family traveled to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City for more in-depth testing, including a kidney biopsy. Doctors have told them he may have Dense Deposit Disease (DDD)—a rare kidney condition. Because DDD is so uncommon, there are still many unknowns about how it will affect Luke’s health in the long run.

Why We Need Your Help

Dense Deposit Disease is so rare that very little research exists, and treatment options are extremely limited. Right now, doctors are trying medications to help slow the progression, but there is no cure—only management. While some individuals with DDD eventually require a kidney transplant, it’s too early to know what Luke’s long-term needs will be.

Luke’s initial hospital stay at Primary Children’s Hospital required extensive testing and specialist visits, which quickly met the family’s $14,000 out-of-pocket maximum for their insurance. This means that the $14,000 we are raising is to cover these immediate medical expenses.

In addition to these costs, Luke’s family faces ongoing medical bills, travel expenses for care, and potential future transplant-related costs. While insurance helps, the financial burden remains heavy.

Our goal is to raise $14,000 so Luke’s family can focus on supporting him rather than worrying about finances.

How Your Donation Will Help:

  • Cover Luke’s $14,000 out-of-pocket medical expenses from Primary Children’s
  • Assist with travel expenses for ongoing care

Ways You Can Help – Even If You Can’t Donate

Share this campaign – Even if you can’t donate, sharing this page with your family, friends, and community can help us reach more people who might be able to contribute.

Consider becoming a potential kidney donor – DDD often leads to kidney failure, meaning Luke will likely need a transplant in the future. If you are open to learning more about being a potential living kidney donor, please reach out. Even just raising awareness about kidney donation can help save lives.

Every Dollar & Every Share Counts

No donation is too small—every contribution brings us closer to ensuring Luke gets the care he needs. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser and considering kidney donor screening can make a world of difference.

Luke is blessed to have a strong, loving family who is navigating this challenge with faith and determination. Let’s rally around him and show our love and support during this difficult time.
