This is our boy, Luke Skywalker, a gentle, long-haired cream dachshund with the sweetest heart. Luke was rescued by the Humane Society in 2019 when he was just two years old. Luke has been more than a pet; he’s a psychiatric service animal who provides comfort, stability, and companionship to his owner through daily emotional support.
In early October 2025, a veterinarian in Michigan discovered a small hernia near Luke’s abdomen. What started as a soft, squishy bump has since grown significantly, becoming firm and uncomfortable, especially when Luke tries to rest or sleep. Luke hasn't been able to do his cute donut cuddle. He has increased urgency to use the bathroom, showing that the hernia is worsening by pressing on his bladder, creating small leaks once in a while. The pictures displayed are from months/year before the hernia, discovery of hernia, and as of 11/4/2025 hernia.
According to the BVS, the estimated cost of surgery varies depending on the facility and supplies required; anywhere from $4,000 to $10,000, with a goal of $12,000 to prepare for the worst-case scenario. We first reached out to Boston Veterinary Specialists, who confirmed they cannot perform the procedure, stating, "we do not have critical care, blood transfusions, internal medicine, etc., so some cases are best at the larger specialty hospitals." Luke’s surgery remains unscheduled due to lack of funds.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Luke’s surgery, post-operative care, and follow-up visits to ensure a full recovery. Luke has already overcome so much in his life; with your help, he can heal and continue being the loving, steady presence his owner depends on.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting Luke’s journey toward recovery.
