Lukas is a positive and playful boy of 4, he loves his toy cars and playing with friends at daycare or around the neighborhood. He has been sick with sJIA-LD since he was 8 months old, having spent long stretches of time in the hospital isolated from the world because of the risk of infections.
This winter it went from stable to critical with multiple infections which led to HLH for the third time in his life, a life threatening complication for which the only treatment is a bone marrow transplantation.
Thankfully a donor has been found and the transplant cost itself is covered, a life saving medicine has been made available to him via compassionate use, meaning we have great hope for the future.
But we are emotionally, physically and financially drained having fought auto-immune disease for 3 years.
Even with the transplant and medications covered, there are reduced earnings, excessive travel costs, parking, car expenses, accommodations, food as we have at least a year more ahead with the transplant procedure, follow up and recovery.
Even if you are unable to donate to us, you can still help someone else by signing up for transplantation registers such as Tobias Registret.
