Support Luis's Fight Against Down Syndrome Regression
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Maria and Luis is my younger brother with Down Syndrome/Autism. Everyone who has had the chance to meet Luis knows how much of a light he is. He would walk into a room and brighten that room with his positive energy, a smile on his face, and always had everyone around him smiling and laughing too.
In June of 2024, Luis underwent a major surgery. While we initially believed he was recovering well, we began to notice troubling changes in his behavior. Slowly, he lost interest in the things he once loved — playing video games, coloring, dancing — the little joys that made him who he was. His daily routines became challenging, and over time, he became dependent on others for simple tasks like eating, dressing, and even walking.
My mom, his greatest advocate, took him to countless doctor appointments, determined to find answers. After a long (continuing) journey, Luis was diagnosed with Down Syndrome Regression, a condition that has taken so much from him. While doctors recommended Immune Globulin Injection, a treatment known to help, his insurance has denied coverage. Despite this setback, my mom has been fighting every day, paying out of pocket for alternative treatments, (Cerebrum Compositum and Brain Laser Treatment) which Luis now receives weekly. These treatments are helping. Little by little, we are starting to see glimpses of the Luis we know and love.
But this fight is far from over, as we are still fighting his insurance for coverage on the treatment, we are reaching out for support to help pay and continue these treatments my mom has been paying out of pocket for and give Luis the chance to heal. Your kindness, whether through a donation, a share, or simply a message of encouragement, means the world to us.
Thank you
