Hi everyone,

With everything going on in our communities, I was hesitant to reach out so as not to distract from our peers' situations who are going through difficult times. However, I’m at a crossroads as I am facing a challenge that can no longer be placed on hold.

My name is Luis, and I am 32 years old. I was diagnosed with advanced cancer in May and have tumors located in my spine that compressed my spinal cord. I was rushed to the hospital on June 11th for an emergency spinal surgery and have been non-ambulatory/bedridden since. I now require maximum assistance, but I’m working hard every day with occupational and physical therapists in hopes that someday I may walk again.

I haven’t been able to go home since June 11th, and it’s proven to be the most difficult time in my life. As an inpatient, I’ve been getting high-dose chemotherapy treatments, frequent blood transfusions, and I’ll be going onto my third stem cell transplant. All this makes it impossible for me to return to work for the rest of the year and likely a few months in 2026.

I feel grateful for those in my life who have been helping me stay motivated. Unfortunately, these circumstances ask for further help, and I am now turning to the extended community.
