Support Luis Benitez's Life-Saving Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
My name is Gloritzel Benitez and I’m writing this for my loving father, Luis Benitez. My dad is fifty-four years old and a man full of endless benevolence. Unfortunately, over a vast duration of my life, I’ve watched him battle, hypertension, diabetes type two and for the past five years kidney failure. My family and I have learned an unfathomable amount of patience as we’ve waited for him to find a donor and match for his transplants. This has involved hemodialysis since 2019 accompanied with a six hour drive roundtrip, three times a week. While hemodialysis has kept him stable, the side effects both physically and emotionally are tiring and exhausting to say the least. It has been a long winded rollercoaster ride that seems to have light at the end of the tunnel, finally. My dad has a donor match and we’re starting to break down what all of this entails from us as a family as he undergoes the surgery.
When one thinks of all the components that make a father, my dad is that and then some. Through each phase of life, he has been the bolster for our family. His strength is unmatched. Between my mom, sister, brother, nieces/nephews, and I, my dad has been the center point for all facets of life. Being a father and husband is a role that involves wearing multiple hats. Most recently, he earned a new hat and title to wear, Grandpa, to my four month old son, Daniel. We can’t imagine a world without my dad and I don’t want a world where Daniel doesn’t have a long-lasting relationship with his Grandpa. There’s a popular saying about, it’s not what you have but who you have, that matters most in life. I couldn’t agree more with this statement. We have been thoroughly blessed to have my dad and we don’t want his story to be cut short.
For his surgery and his stay in the hospital afterward, it depends on more money than we could have ever imagined. We expected it to be a large amount but what we were presented with was larger than anticipated. At this time, we’re asking for help to cover these monetary costs to ensure we have more time with our leading light. My dad has always been the helper, never the one to ask for help, so on his behalf, I’m graciously asking for help of any sort. More time with him is priceless and I thank you deeply for reading our story.
