Support Luel Getye's Life-Changing Kidney Transplant

I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. I am writing out to you today with a heavy heart but a glimmer of hope. My name is Getye Mekonnen and I am writing on behalf of my Son, Luel Getye. We are a loving family and we never expected this will happen in our life. Luel is in need of your support for a life-changing journey - a kidney transplant.

Luel Getye was born in Bahar Dar city in 1997 G.C from his father Getye Mekonen and his mother Amarech Alemu. He started school at four years old and completed his primary and secondary education at Bahardar Blessed G/Michael Catholic School. Afterward, he successfully passed the university entrance exam and earned admission to Bahr Dar University in 2014 G.C. He studied mechanical engineering, graduating with an impressive GPA of 3.47. His academic journey continued as he earned a master’s degree in manufacturing engineering with high honors in 2021 G.C, achieving a remarkable GPA of 3.94. Luel was preparing to pursue his third degree and embark on a promising career as a junior mechanical engineer when our world was turned upside down.

He was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of eight and has been receiving medical attention for the past 20 years. However, during these years, it was confirmed that both his kidneys had stopped working due to the complications caused by diabetes. Doctors have told him that he has to start hemodialysis as his kidney function has reached stage 05 (end stage).

For the past 5 years, he has been battling chronic kidney disease, and it has taken a toll on every aspect of his life. Despite the challenges, he has remained resilient, fueled by the love and support from our family and friends. Doctors have informed us that a kidney transplant is his best chance at a healthier and more fulfilling life. After enduring nearly three years of dialysis, each session takes a heavy toll, leaving him depleted and drained. He's in dialysis for 12 hours a week and comes home and sleeps for another 4 hours after dialysis. Sometimes I feel like he is just sleeping his life away.

Until now, he has been doing Hemodialysis with financial support from his parents, neighbors and friends. Currently, his brother is willing to donate his kidney to him, so he has been told that he will have to do the transplant abroad, and preparations are underway. The amount requested for

the treatment is $50,000 (Fifty Thousand US Dollars). Unfortunately, as my family and I are government employees living hand-to-mouth, we are unable to afford the expenses associated with the treatment, including medical bills and post-surgery care. The financial strain is incredibly challenging for us to bear. This is where I humbly ask for your support. I have created this GoFundMe page to raise funds that will help Luel to cover the costs of the transplant and ensure a smoother recovery process.

ስሜ ጌትዬ መኮነን ሲሆን ይሄን መልዕክት እየጻፍኩ ያለሁት ልጄን ልዑል ጌትዬን በመወከል ነው፡፡

ልዑሌ የተወለደው በባህር ዳር ከተማ ከአባቱ ጌትዬ መኮነን እና ከእናቱ አማረች አለሙ ነው። ትምህርት በአራት አመቱ የጀመረ ሲሆን የመጀመሪያ እና ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርቱን በብጹዕ ገብረ ሚካኤል ካቶሊክ ትምህርት ቤት ተከታትሏል። የዩኒቨርሲቲ መገቢያ ፈተናዉን በጥሩ ሁኔታ ካለፈ በኋላ በ2007 በባህር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ኢንጂነሪንግ ትምህርት ክፍል በሜካኒካል ኢንጂነሪንግ 3.47 GPA በማምጣት በጥሩ ሁኔታ አጠናቋል። ከዚያም በመቀጠል በማኑፋክቸሪንግ ኢንጂነሪንግ ማስተርሱን በመማር አስደናቂ በሆነ 3.94 GPA በ2013 በከፍተኛ ማዕረግ ተመርቋል። ልዑሌ ለሶሰተኛ(PhD) ዲግሪው በመዘጋጀት እያለ ነበር ህይወት እጅግ በጣም ከባድ ፈተና የላከችብን።

ልዑሌ በስምንት አመት እድሜው ነበር ስኳር በሽታ እንዳለበት የታወቀው። ከዚያም ጊዜ ጀምሮ እስክ አሁን ለ20 አመታት የህክምና ክትትል ሲያረግ ቆይቷል። ነገር ግን በቅርብ አመታት ሁለቱም ኩላሊቶቹ ከስኳር በሽታ ጋር በተያያዘ ስራ በማቆማቸው እና ተገቢውን ስራ እየሰሩ ባለመሆኑ በሃኪሞች የኩላሊት እጥበት ማድረግ እንዳለበት ተነግሮት እሱን ሲያከናውን ቆይቷል።

ላለፉት አምስት አመታት ከበሽታው ጋር ያረገው ትግል በሁሉም የህይወቱ መስክ ጫና አሳድረውበታል። በዚህ ሁሉ ፈተና መሃል ግን ልዑሌ በጽናት በቤተሰቦቹ እና በጓደኞቹ እርዳታ ሊቀጥል ችሏል። ህይወቱን ከዚህ በኋላ በጤናማ እና በተሟላ መልኩ ለመቀጠል ያለው አማራጭ የኩላሊት ንቅለ ተከላ እንደሆነ በሀኪሞች ተነግሮታል። ያለፉትን ሶስት አመታትን በኩላሊት እጥበት ካሳለፈ በኋላ ህክምናው አቅሙን ጨርሶበታል። በሳምንት 12 ሰዐት በእጥበት የሚያሳልፍ ሲሆን ከእያንዳንዱ እጥበት በኋላም ለ 4 ሰዐታት እንደገና የተኛል። አንዳንዴ ህይወቱን በመተኛት እየጨረሰ ይመስለኛል።

እስካሁን ድረስ የኩላሊት እጥበቱን ከወላጆቹ፣ ጎረቤቶቹ እና ጓደኞቹ በሚያገኘው የገንዘብ እርዳታ ሲያከናውን ቆይቷል። አሁን ወንድሙ የሱን ኩላሊት ሊለግሰው በመቻሉ እና ህክምናው በሃገር ውስጥ የማይሰጥ በመሆኑ ወደ ውጭ ሃገር በመሄድ ንቅለ ተከላዉን ለማካሄድ በዝግጅት ላይ እንገኛለን። ህክምናዉን ለማሄድ የተጠየቀው የገንዘብ መጠንም 50,000(ሃምሳ ሺህ) ዶላር ነው። ቤተሰቦቹ ከእጅ ወደ አፍ የሆነ ህይወት ያለን የመንግስት ሰራተኞች በመሆናችን ይሄን ሁሉ ወጭ (የህክምናው እና ከህክምናው በኋላ ያሉ የተያያዙ ወጭዎች) በራሳችን መሸፈን የማይታሰብም የማይቻልም ነው። ለዚህም ነው የናንተን እርዳታ በትህትና የምጠይቀው። በመሆኑም ይሄን የጎፈንድ ሚ ገጽ የልዑሌን የኩላሊት ንቅለ ተከላ ለማከናወን የሚያስፈልጉ ወጭዎች ለመሸፈን ከፍተነዋል።

የናንተ እርዳታ ለልዑሌ አሁን ካለበት ከባድ ሁኔታ እንዲላቀቅ እጅግ በጣም ትልቅ የሆነ ልዩነት ያመጣል። ምንም አይነት እርዳታ የቱንም ያህል ትንሽ ቢሆን ይሄን ህይወት ቀያሪ ህክምና ለማካሄድ አንድ እርምጃ ወደፊት ይገፋናል። በጸሎታችሁ፣ በበጎ ሃሳቦቻችሁ እና በተለያዩ የሶሻል ሚድያ ገጾችም ላይ ይሄን መልእክት በማጋራት በጣም ልታግዙን ትችላላችሁ።

የአሁኑ ጊዜ ለብዙዎቻችን እና እንደ ሃገርም ከባድ እንደሆነ በመረዳት እስካሁን ይሄን መልዕክት ለማንበብ ለወሰዳችሁት ጊዜ ከልቤ አመሰግናለሁ፡፡ በገንዘብ መርዳት ለማትችሉ ወገኖቼ በጸሎት እና በሃሳብ ድጋፍ እንድታረጉልን እጠይቃለሁ።

በልዑሌ ጉዞ ላይ የተስፋ ምንጭ በመሆናችሁ አመሰግናለሁ። አብረን የልዑሌን ህይወት መቀየር እና ለመኖር ተጨማሪ እድል መስጠት እንችላለን። በተጨማሪም ይሄን መልዕክት እንድታጋሩልኝ እጠይቃለሁ።
