Hello all, meet Lucy Auma, mother of 3 and program director of Path to Empowerment in Gulu, Uganda. She is a partner with Global Ministry Partners in the USA to bring the gospel, clean water, hygiene education, and community engagement in the Unyama subcounty in Gulu district. Under her efforts, 2 wells have been drilled for clean drinking water, 3 Bible studies have been established, hygiene classes have been taught in the local schools, a rainwater collection system was repaired at a local school, and a neighboring community now has a dedicated washing station for the women to do laundry.

For years, Lucy has suffered with chronic ear pain, some hearing loss, pain in her jaw from the ear infections along with headaches, and sometimes even blood and pus coming from her ear. Most often, the local doctors would prescribe her antibiotics, and the symptoms would be relieved, for a time.

She finally saw a specialist, a 5-hour bus trip to Kampala, and was diagnosed with a polyp and a path to healing. The surgery to remove the polyp, travel and accommodations, and medicines amount to 10.8 million shillings, or $3000 USD. Considering that Lucy only makes 730,000 Ugandan shillings per month ($200 USD), this is beyond her capabilities to afford.
