ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
As most of you will know, 2025 has been a rollercoaster ride for our family.
For Lucy, an innocuous earache at Christmas which turned out to be bacterial meningitis resulting in a brain injury and a stroke. Two emergency brain surgeries and many scary moments, but our miraculous Luce's will to live and love shone through.
Discharge from hospital was followed by two months in the incredible Plym Neuro Rehab unit before all the ups and downs of returning home, recovering and rehabilitating while trying to adapt to a new life.
This week marked another milestone as Lucy went back into surgery for her cranioplasty, the insertion of a titanium plate to replace the missing part of her skull.
We hope you can keep us close in your thoughts and send all your positivity Lucy’s way for the days and weeks ahead.
As we have along this journey, we are taking one day at a time, but optimistically looking to the future.
Lucy has always been a lover of language. Reading, writing and keeping in touch with loved ones have defined much of her life.
She has been affected in many ways by her injury (epilepsy, hemianopia) but her aphasia and difficulty with speech and language is still most affecting for Luce and we would like to ramp up her therapy once she’s recovered from her surgery by enrolling her in an ICAP programme (Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme)
The course is 6-8 weeks, 3 hours a day of intensive therapies which show excellent outcomes for people with aphasia. We’d additionally like to support this by continuing her regular private speech and language sessions.
Luce is a special soul whose web of love, friendship and positivity seems to know no bounds.
It has been nothing short of incredible to see this love reflected back at her and humbling for our family to feel so supported from all corners of the globe on our journey so far. We don’t know exactly what our future looks like, but want to give Lucy every possible chance to make the best recovery she can.
We’re aware these are tight times for many and there is absolutely no pressure to donate.
We would love you to leave messages, long or short.
If you would like to send a private message of support, please get in touch with me directly.
One day at a time, all the time in the world.
All our love
Andy, Lucy and Sunny
