Lucy Terry is the wife of Kevin Terry and mother of Ellie (13), who's been amazing at wrestling if you've been keeping up, Kelly (7), who turns out to be a little genius, and Freddy (2), who is just the sweetest little boy with such a beautiful smile.
Last August, Lucy had a stroke at 34 years old. She's since recovered, but on Jan 17th, she found she was unable to walk or use her hands. She went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).
GBS is where Lucy's immune system is attacking her nerves, causing weakness or paralysis in the legs and hands. She's lost the ability to walk without assistance and now requires a walker and a wheelchair.
Lucy spent a few weeks in the hospital before they had her strong enough to move into a rehabilitation center where she's been receiving physical therapy for up to 3 hours every day. Her release date was supposed to be February 18th but was pushed back until the 25th. She was supposed to receive continued physical therapy at home, but her home is located too far away so now she needs to travel for her physical therapy sessions.
This means Lucy has been away from home, away from her family for over a month and will need to continue to travel to frequent appointments. Her husband has been unable to return to his job and has since applied for medical leave. Kevin's needed to be home for their 3 kids and 2 dogs, but they haven't heard yet if he's been approved. This means over a month of no income. They need help to pay their bills, to pay for things like a ramp so she can have access to her own home, and for food for her family.
Lucy may be coming home soon, but she still has such a long recovery ahead of her. She'll need to install helpful measures in her home just to get around, and both Lucy and Kevin need to be confident she can manage on her own before Kevin can return to work.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to help. We appreciate it more than you know.
