Help Me Stay Housed and Find Stability After Job Loss
Donation protected
Hi friends,
I’m writing this with a vulnerable heart and deep hope.
At the beginning of this year, I lost my job working for a nonprofit. I had been brought on as a 1099 contractor with the understanding that it would become a full-time paid role if funding came through. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, the organization couldn’t bring me on permanently. Because I was a contractor, I’m not eligible for unemployment. I started applying for new jobs right away, but the job market has been incredibly tough and I haven’t been able to land something new.
Despite doing everything I can to stay afloat, my emergency savings are now gone. I’m now facing the very real possibility of not having a place to live next month and struggling to buy groceries.
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do—asking publicly for help. It brings up a lot of fear. But I’m learning to reach out instead of trying to survive in silence.
Your support right now would help cover essential needs: housing, groceries, daily essentials—giving me the breathing room I need to continue applying for jobs and rebuild a sense of safety and stability. Truly, even a small donation would be immensely impactful, not just materially but for my mental health. Stability is what allows me to keep showing up for myself, for others, and for my future.
If you’re able to help, your donation would go directly toward:
• Rent to keep a roof over my head
• Groceries and cat food
• Utilities and basic bills
If you’re not in a position to donate but know of any job opportunities or personal connections—especially in nonprofit management, research, communications, or admin support—I would be so grateful. I have a strong background in nonprofit work, qualitative research with vulnerable populations, program coordination, community engagement and content creation. I’m also very open right now—this is a career transition point for me, and I’m exploring all the ways I can use my skills meaningfully.
Most importantly, I want to feel safe, supported, and not alone. Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for any way you’re able to support—whether through a donation, a job lead, or a share.
This is incredibly vulnerable for me, but I know I’m not the only one who’s ever faced a moment like this. Your kindness means more than I can put into words.
With deep gratitude,
Lucy
