Luciana is our one-month-old baby girl. Lucí has had a hard start to life. It started as what we thought was a fussy baby, but on November 10th, Lucí stopped eating, would barely wake up, and became pale and lethargic. On November 11th, we spent most of our day in Hutchinson ER, then were transferred to Saint Paul Children’s where she underwent a CT, blood tests, NG tube, ultrasounds of her heart and stomach. She has seen a speech therapist, occupational therapist, neuro specialists, gastroenterology, physical therapists, and dietitians. Luciana has started to gradually gain weight; things are looking up! Through all these tests, they have found Lucí to have a small gallbladder and high direct and indirect bilirubin levels. We have since been transferred to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital from Saint Paul’s where they will do a HIDA test to see if Lucí has biliary atresia. As we hope this scan goes well, we are still on the hunt for why her bilirubin levels are high.
