Lucia Vega’s Funeral Expenses
Donation protected
*UPDATE* - With heavy hearts, our mom has unfortunately passed away on 7/23/24. She was the greatest person we have ever known, and she has touched many lives. With this tragic loss still in mind, we have to plan and fiance a funeral. This GoFundMe is being repurposed to support the funeral costs. Thank you everyone for the support and kind words.
Hello everyone, our names are Leslie, Carmen, and Jorge Salgado. We are currently raising funds for our incredible mother Lucia Vega, who has been diagnosed with urethral cancer.
This has been devastating news for us all, and to everyone who knows her personally. Although we have already felt a ton of support, there have been many challenges that have come from this diagnosis. These challenges include physical restrictions, where our mother cannot move as freely as she was able to, and mental challenges as well. The way she goes about her day to day life has changed, and they are likely to stay changed for the foreseeable future.
The sudden decline of our mother’s physical health has prevented her from working for two months now, as her job requires rigorous activity. Since she was a self-employed housekeeper, she does not have any work related benefits, and was forced to let go of all of her clientele. Our mother was the breadwinner of our family, providing for her son Jorge, family back in Mexico, and occasionally her daughter Carmen.
She will begin her treatment soon, which includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. The doctors have stated that it is impossible to remove the tumor she has surgically, so she will have to endure different types of treatment for up to the next 15 weeks. It will be quite some time before she is able to work again, and assuming she returns to her peak physical health, she would have no clientele to work with. On top of providing for her loved ones, our mother also has bills to pay, such as her medical bills, car payment, utilities, groceries, and insurance.
That is why we are creating this fundraiser to help support her financially through this challenging time where she is not able to work. We want her sole focus to be on getting better without having to worry about finances. Additionally, we want to say that our mother is the strongest and most hardworking woman we know. She has supported us throughout our lives. She is also a kind woman who has brought joy to many others she knows. Although we know that this will be a challenging period in our lives, we are certain that she will make it through this temporary obstacle with her positive mindset, grit, and hopefulness. Thank you!
